Wallsteijn estate lies near the Belgian border. It was founded by Mr F. Van de Wall, then mayor of Zundert, at the end of the 18th century. At the beginning of the 19th century he built the current country house and called it Wallsteijn. For generations the development of the family property had been intensively worked on. Over the years a large number of farms, forester cottages, a lodge (Klein Wallsteijn) and even a private estate pub ('t Pannenhuisje) were established. At the same time forests, scenic areas and monumental avenues were created. The Van de Wall family were well aquainted with pastor Van Gogh (yes, father of the lateron world famous painter Vincent). Thus Vincent frequently visited Wallsteyn as a child with his father. When the Van de Wall family came to an end around 1980 the Wallsteijn courtyard and the lodge were sold. The scenic areas were bequeathed to the national heritage foundation. Wallsteijn has hardly changed over the years and is still privately occupied by the current owners.Accommodation and prices
The lodge has recently been completely refurbished and can be rented as a holiday accommodation.
The house is detached with a private terrace in a large garden surrounded by hedges. Privacy is thus ensured.
The lodge is fully equipped. It has a separate lounge and dining room.
To enhance the ambience a fireplace and woodstove can be lit here. TV is available in the lounge.
The kitchen provides all necessary equipment.
Upstairs are a bathroom and 2 bedrooms for up to 4 people.
The lodge is based on self catering. The first ingredients for breakfast and a drink with small snack are provided upon arrival.

Surroundings
Achtmaal (Zundert)Wallsteijn estate is part of a country estate area reaching across the Belgian border. This area also includes the estates De Moeren, the Pannenhoef and the Old and New Buisse Heide (previously owned by the poetess Henriette Roland Holst). An extensive network of hiking and cycling trails leads along the most beautiful scenic areas and three estate pubs ( 't Pannenhuisje,' t Anker and Jagersrust). Burgundian Belgium is within reach. The lodge is a great base for trips to cities such as Breda and Bergen op Zoom, but also to the beautiful historic cities of Antwerp, Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, etc.
