About Erfgoed Logies

The Erfgoed Logies Foundation was established in 1996 at the initiative of Groningen province, in cooperation with the local VVV (official tourist office). The primary goal was to stimulate the tourist sector in Groningen province by encouraging the offering of small-scale lodging accommodations. This would also offer an alternate use for the various historical buildings that were either standing empty or whose owners were fighting a losing battle against maintenance demands. Working together with the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and the European Union, the Foundation has succeeded through the years in gaining public subsidies for renovating these historic buildings.

National Organization
The necessity to grow from a merely provincial to a national organization became apparent in the year 2000: subsidy money was drying up, and a greater number of participants was needed in order to justify a suitable marketing budget to further build the organization’s public image and reputation. The original vision remained unchanged: to preserve historical treasures by establishing and promoting guest lodgings.

Marketing
Since 1 November 2004 marketing has been the responsibility of Brigitte Bormans (1960). She worked as a consultant for international PR bureaus and for ten years ran her own marketing/PR company. Then she worked as a free-lance editor for glossy magazines specializing in gastronomy. She is the author of the cookbook The Chef’s Wife.
