Five distinguished and attractive rooms in an Art Deco house within walking distance of the historic center of beautiful Mechelen (archbishopric of Belgium and capital of the Netherlands in the 16th century at the time of Margaret of Austria). Sounds good right?
Let's start with the rooms. They may be there, they all have their own name and story, but all five are different. Except for Suite Lady Margareta, which is big enough for four guests, they are double. All possible modern comfort is standard, the beds are of very good quality and the bathrooms are complete. All rooms are on the upper floors and overlook the garden at the rear or the street, which is otherwise wonderfully quiet. In that garden, where the house chickens also roam, you can enjoy your fantastic breakfast or a drink in the afternoon on nice days. If the weather does not allow it, you can have breakfast in the attractive breakfast room.
It remains to report that Porta Superia has been the proud owner of a Green Key since 2022: an international sustainability label for the tourism and leisure industry that rewards operators who pursue an ambitious sustainability policy, limiting the environmental impact of your stay or visit .
You can explore the river landscape and the various nature reserves around Mechelen by bike or on foot and climb until your calves ache on the St. Rombouts Tower. You can also spot birds in the area. In the city itself you will find several courtyards and real parks, of which the Vrijbroekpark, which is around the corner from your B&B, is the largest. City walks are plentiful and plentiful. And then we haven't even mentioned the various special buildings, the museums, the range of shops and the culinary offer. Enough to do and experience.
HistoryPorta Superia is a derivative of the Latin name of the Brusselse Poort in Mechelen, the Porta Superio, or the oldest and most important gateway to the city, which is located close to Porta Superia B&B. Because the B&B is also a bit of a gateway to the city, the name was quickly chosen. The owners Kurt and Michael saw a long cherished dream come true in Porta Superia. In 2020 they moved into their stately and elegant Art Deco mansion with garden after they first thoroughly renovated the building.
