The four rooms, although different, are exceptionally furnished and decorated and equipped with all possible facilities. The bathrooms offer the same proverbial warm bath.
Because the owners did not want to create any barriers and do not feel at home in a distant, sterile or museum atmosphere, the atmosphere can best be characterized as warm, personal and wonderfully livable. The fabrics used are not heavy and classic, art is mostly contemporary and all modern shades are in harmony with authentic details and elements.
In the private lounge you can drink a glass of wine or read a book by the fireplace. The specially landscaped, walled courtyard garden is also open to you. Breakfast is served in the room or in the beautiful dining room with unique Rococo paintings.
Ghent is located at the intersection of the important cultural cities of Antwerp, Bruges and Brussels. The city was already a furore in the 18th century because of the wealth that the textile industry brought. The architecture from those days is now called cultural heritage of stature. The Verhaegen with outbuildings, stables and annexe forms an island located between three old streets. Just two blocks away is the famous Graslei in the historic center with many wonderful shops, restaurants, terraces and bars. In the beautifully restored and classified garden you can have breakfast or a drink on beautiful days.
HistoryThe history of The Verhaegen goes back many centuries. In 1766 the complex was bought by the Triest couple, who immediately had important embellishments carried out. The ornate facades and the lavish interiors all date from that time. PN van Reijsschoot painted paintings in the large salon and dining room, which are among the most beautiful of his oeuvre. The famous Verhaegen family stayed there for 150 years before handing over the hotel completely intact in 2004 to the interior architects Marc Vergauwe and Jan Rosseel. They decided to bring the beautiful building back to life and also realized their dream of creating a Maison d'Hôtes there.
