First let's talk about the name of this wonderful holiday home for 3 or 4 people, because it includes a funny anecdote. One Pierre-Louis (nickname Wietie) Blommaert (1851-1937) in his youthful overconfidence is said to have climbed up the lightning rod of the church one day to rub a little putty in the beak of the tower rooster (called vinke). That animal could whistle so annoyingly on windy nights and keep people awake from sleep that something really had to be done about it.
But now on to the house itself. Here you will still find many historical building elements. Although you will certainly not lack modern comfort. Not excessively luxurious, as the owners themselves describe it, but with a bathroom with shower and two sinks and separate toilet, a modern and stylishly equipped kitchen with refrigerator, dishwasher and super cozy AGA (some guests come especially to cook on this stove) and a living room with a lovely wood stove. On the ground floor there is a single bedroom. The other sleeping places are on the first floor.
The garden awaits you for summer days. A grape vine adorns the barn and provides shade to the terrace if desired.
You've come to the right place here, in the rolling landscape of the Flemish Ardennes, if you like nature, walking and cycling. For cycling enthusiasts, the Molenberg - known for the cycling classic the Tour of Flanders - beckons. Culture enthusiasts will also get their money's worth here, with Zottegem and Brakel as well as Oudenaarde just a stone's throw away. In Oudenaarde, the Music Forest is an attraction in the spring because it is packed with purple bluebells in April and May. Burgundians can visit several cozy eateries in the area and there are also several museums that are worth a visit. Historic Ghent awaits 35km.
HistoryOne of the wall anchors of this historic farmhouse contains the year 1791, but the core is even older. Many historical building elements have been beautifully preserved in the house. You will still find the old beamed attics, old floors (ground floor with Boom red and gray baked tiles), old wooden doors with separate buttons to open and close the doors and the authentic wooden trusses in the attic under the thatched roof.
