Can you picture yourself sitting there? Under one of the ancient trees on the estate? Or in a quiet corner with a babbling brook and birdsong in the background? A good read, a refreshing dip in the (heated) saltwater pool, and then stretched out on your lounger under the parasol? Living like a king in France, indeed.
Domaine les Darbonnets offers four spacious, bright B&B rooms. All four are carefully furnished, have a full private bathroom, and a view of the park-like garden. In the morning, the Dutch owners serve a generous breakfast with local products – fresh bread, homemade jams, and regional delicacies. This is served indoors or – as soon as possible! - relax outside on the terrace.
For those who prefer, table d'hôtes is also an option. This means an exquisite four-course menu with matching wines from the chateau's wine cellar.
The estate is only 20 minutes from the Route du Soleil (A6). Pets are unfortunately not welcome here, and the policy is "adults only."
Minimum stay: 2 nights.
Amidst the green bocage landscape of the Bresse Bourguignonne and between the hills of Burgundy and the Jura, this charming estate awaits, where you can still fully experience true French country life. Whether you're a lover of history, art, or architecture, this region has something for everyone! In the surrounding area, you'll find castles, wineries, a legendary abbey, markets, monasteries, and museums. Lyon is a 1.5-hour drive away, Geneva 2 hours.
HistoryThis residence dates from 1830 and was built by Catherine Soullier as a summer residence. After her death, granddaughter Rose Soullier inherited the house. Rose had six children, many of whom pursued remarkable careers. Her granddaughter, author Marguerite Bourcet, wrote her first novel here in 1922 and later published fifteen works. She described the estate as an idyllic park designed by a landscape architect. Marguerite's sister, Marie-Rose, married pharmacist René Fouché, inventor of the famous herbal tea Boldoflorine and a pioneer in radio advertising. The current owners combine the charm of a historic house with contemporary comfort, creating a place where peace, space, and hospitality converge.
