Château de Saint-Aignan offers two detached lodges based on self-catering.
Sidonie’s Lodge offers four elegant and warm rooms. The sitting-room is appointed with comfortable armchairs and sofa, a rustic fireplace and flat screen television. The kitchen if fully equipped. In the small interior courtyard you will find outdoor furniture and a BBQ. The two tastefully renovated bathrooms have heated towel racks. The sunny Garnet bedroom is furnished with a king size bed, the Ochre bedroom overlooking the park has twin beds.
Leonard’s Lodge is nestled at the edge of the park, on a hillside overlooking the Cher River. This graciously proportioned house contains 4 spacious, comfortable rooms. The sitting-room consisting of a large room with adjoining alcove, the salon features a fireplace. Tastefully furnished with large sofa and comfortable armchairs. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped. The bathroom offers double sinks and a large bathtub. The light Bird room is furnished with a king size bed, the Butterfly room with a view of the park has twin beds.
To the west of the château, a vast private park extends across the hillside. Carefully maintained over the centuries, it shelters a large variety of specimen trees and is a fecund preserve for native wildlife and plants. With a bit of luck, in the early morning or at sunset you may encounter a pair of roe deer grazing on the great lawn.
Built on a rocky promontory, the château overlooks the picturesque slate and tile rooftops of the town of Saint Aignan to the south and the Cher River valley to the north. You can enjoy exceptional panoramic views from the main courtyard and adjoining terrace.
The tranquil medieval town of Saint Aignan is a brief stroll from our Gatehouses. You won't want to miss the beautiful frescoes in the crypt of the Romanesque church. The Beauval zoo, one of Europe's most acclaimed animal parks is just 2 kms away. The Gatehouses are a short drive from the finest Loire Valley châteaux - including: Cheverny and the Tintin museum, Chambord, Chenonceau, Blois, Beauregard, Montrésor, Montpoupon and its Hunting museum, le Clos Lucé - Leonardo da Vinci's property, Valençay, Loches . Discover the lovely château gardens of Valmer, Villandry and la Bourdaisière. Within range of a few kms you can take a walk in the forest, go for a ride at an equestrian center or arrange a wine tasting at one of the numerous vineyards along the hillside flanking the Cher River.
HistoryRemaining vestiges of the original 11th century castle include a fortified tower and outer walls. The principal structure dates from the Renaissance and is distinguished by an elegant carved limestone facade, mullioned windows and steep peaked slate roofline. Saint Aignan is one of the rare châteaux to have remained in the same family across the generations throughout its history.
Jolie, très très jolie... Op een geweldige historische plek- op wandelafstand van een kleine stad met winkels en eetgelegenheden. Wij waren een week in Sidonie’s Lodge en hebben het bijzonder naar ons zin gehad. Recommandée !
