A beauty of a windmill, converted into a holiday home, all to yourself? He is waiting in Maurik. Suitable for up to six people, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and a garden to say the least.
You can read the newspaper, watch TV, play the piano, have breakfast and dinner in the mill room on the ground floor, where the miller used to ride in with a horse and cart to hoist the grain up to the millstones.
On the 1st floor are the first bedroom and bathroom with a beautiful view of the nature around. On the 3rd floor is bedroom two and on the 4th floor the second bathroom, where access to the mill hood is also provided via a loft ladder.
The first bedroom has a double bed. The second has a queen-size bed and a sofa bed with space for two children, for example.
The large garden is fenced and a cozy sitting area has been created especially for guests by the water. At the front of the mill is also the tea garden. Open from March to October between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and with, just as a tea garden should be, a number of tables under the trees and a small menu with exclusive teas, fresh apple pie, toasted sandwiches, baguettes, coffee, soft drinks, non-alcoholic beer and non-alcoholic wine.
Maurik is one of the many charming villages in the Betuwe, centrally located between larger cities such as Utrecht, Den Bosch, Arnhem and Nijmegen, with many cycling and walking tours and idyllic ferries across the river Nederrijn.
HistoryThe mill dates from 1873, this beautiful mill. In which year it was built on the old foundations of a medieval castle. In 2006 it was time for a renovation and that became a thorough one because there had to be a holiday home in which guests should lack nothing. And then we haven't even mentioned the lovely garden.
Really great place to stay. A must do, an original experience. We, family of four, Dutch expats living in Florida, stayed here for 3 nights. We are glad we did. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating. Communication was great before and during our stay, using Whatsapp. Very important and it made our stay a breeze. The windmill itself is of course unique to stay in. Maybe there are more luxurious places to stay for the same amount, but most hotels are all the same. This mill is very well appointed, all comforts are there. They did not skimp on the design, furniture or little things like cups, plates, coffee etc. Well done. Outside is the best, we had breakfast and sat for a cold beer at both terrasses. Very peaceful, very quiet, in nature. Beautiful. A highlight was the tour, where our kids helped set up the mill to make it run. (turn). We got a detailed tour with all the ins and outs and loved it, all the way to the top of the mill. Parking is close by, not easy to maneuver so take it slow. The stairs are many and narrow. You must be agile enough to go up and down, slowly and safely, a lot. Not a problem for most, but some might not want to risk this. The king bed is comfortable, but does creak a lot, earplugs might be needed. You can easily walk into the little village, with some restaurants. (The Greek restaurant was not good at all, try another) Or the Jumbo supermarket is very close and in the mill, you can easily cook anything. The tea garden is also nice, and our boys loved the trampoline. So, in short, if you are looking for a great AND original stay, this is the place. We highly recommend.
