Huis van Engelen is located on one of the oldest historical locations in Ten Post at the bridge ('post') over the Damsterdiep, a waterway between the city of Groningen and Appingedam that is over a thousand years old.
The house offers a spacious holiday home for up to three people with no shortage of space and guaranteed privacy.
The guest house is located in the front house of De Smidse. Through the hallway and the hall you enter the dining room where a nice table with chairs invite you to enjoy together. The kitchen is adjoining and very fully equipped so that you can cook yourself if you want. For nice days you have your own terrace in the courtyard and when it is chilly outside the fireplace awaits in the cozy living room. The bedrooms and the complete bathroom are on the first floor. There is a master bedroom and a smaller bedroom for one person. To make the great enjoyment complete, a roof terrace has also been created on this floor, overlooking the fields.

Ten Post is located on the edge of Het Hoogeland, a centuries-old terp landscape with medieval churches north of the Damsterdiep. The 'Diep' connects the city of Groningen with the Wadden Sea. The bustling city centre awaits 15 km away. Appingedam, the only place in the province with city rights besides Groningen, and famous for its hanging kitchens, is also easily accessible. In the Ommeland there are numerous farms, houses and public buildings in the Amsterdam style.
HistoryHuis Van Engelen consists of a 'shop house', a municipal monument from 1840, and a 'smithy' consisting of a front house and a barn. Over the centuries, the Smidse housed a cooperage, blacksmith and smithy and was often renovated and adapted to its function. In 1959, the workshop was expanded. Around 1970, the front house was added to the workshop. In 2005, the building was purchased by George van Engelen. He renovated the front house and created a residence in it to allow guests to enjoy the house and its surroundings.
