Given its impressive size, Huis Broekmeulen is extremely suitable for groups. Sixteen bedrooms (ranging from 1 to 5-person rooms), the garden house and nine luxurious bathrooms can accommodate 40 people.
Apart from this house there is one luxury B&B room for two people: the Kanunnik. This can be booked separately and has its own entrance on the ground floor plus a terrace in front of the door. The Kanunnik is large and light, with a large bed (210 wide x 220 long), a pantry with fridge, cooking plate, Nespresso machine and kettle and bathroom with bath, sink and shower and a separate toilet.
More than 800 years ago, Thorn was a miniature principality. Its remnants have become the historic heart of the town, now a heritage townscape. Picturesque white houses, beautifully preserved national heritage buildings dating from the 15th to 18th centuries, winding streets paved with original Maas cobblestones, and intimate courtyards alternate with lovely floor mosaics. There are countless opportunities for enjoyable walking tours in the surrounding area, and the Maas river is ideal for surfing, sailing and canoeing. The medieval city of Maastricht can be reached by car in less than 30 minutes.
HistoryHuis Broeckmeulen was built in 1750. It was originally a canon’s residence for secular Roman Catholic clergy. Later on it became a convent for nuns, where stricter rules applied within the walls. In the 20th century, the premises were occupied by a general practitioner and his family. Several years ago, the building was bought and magnificently restored by the Mulleners family.
