HistoryThe first foundations of Castle Mheer, which forms the center of the estate, probably date from the late 11th century. The oldest wing of the castle was built in the 14th century and over the centuries the castle got its current shape. Since 1668, the castle has been owned by the noble family that still inhabits the castle today. Hoeve Buiten Mheer was built around 1900 and served as a fruit farm for the lands of the castle. Later it became a horse farm with a trotting track where Princess Beatrix sometimes came. The farm is still part of the castle Mheer estate. A walk to the beautiful castle takes about twenty minutes and takes you through the back entrance along a beautiful Lindelaan to the courtyard of the castle.
