In the green heart of the Heuvelrug and a stone's throw from Amerongen castle, this small-scale design hotel is housed in the beautifully restored, historic Tabakswaag from 1806.
There are five spacious, double designer rooms. With a different view for each room and different decor, atmosphere and theme. What the rooms have in common are a private, luxurious bathroom with bathrobes, hair dryer and toiletries, desk, comfortable chair, Nespresso machine, kettle, ironing board (on request), TV and WiFi.
You check in at Hotel-cafe restaurant Buitenlust which is 40 meters away from the Napoleon barn. There you can also have breakfast, dinner and a drink.
On the ground floor of the Tabakswaag is a room that can be used for meetings and weddings.
The Napoleonschuur design hotel overlooks the park of Amerongen Castle, the church, the tobacco growing museum, the cozy terraces and cafés and the nice restaurants of Amerongen.
You can walk and cycle to your heart's content in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park. Also mountain bikers (you will find one of the top 10 mountain bike trails in the Benelux here!) And golfers can indulge themselves. For culture lovers there are numerous castles and country places to visit.
The 14th century town of Wijk bij Duurstede is also very worthwhile.
HistoryTobacco was cultivated on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug until half of the 20th century. The Napoleon Barn (indeed built by Louis Napoleon) was originally built as a Tobacco Venture - where the tobacco was traded. Soon, however, the shed was used to bill in French soldiers. A restoration took place in 2018 whereby the first floor was transformed into a design hotel with library.
