Boutique Hotel "'t Huys van Steyns"

9 rooms – all different

These are the highlights

  • You can walk straight from your hotel to the famous antiques market.

  • Huys van Steyns is the only hotel in Tongeren with private parking.

  • The honesty bar serves drinks at a fair price.

At boutique hotel 't Huys van Steyns, you'll feel right at home, and the high ceilings, gleaming parquet floors, and warm décor certainly contribute to that. The hotel is within walking distance of Tongeren's famous antique market, the many restaurants, and other attractions the city has to offer. Maastricht, Bilzen, Sint-Truiden, and Hasselt are also easily accessible from here.

At 't Huys van Steyns, you can choose from nine luxurious rooms (three of which are on the ground floor). While all different, they all share every modern comfort (flat-screen TV, coffee maker), king-size beds, and well-equipped bathrooms with a large shower.

Enjoy the extensive breakfast—consisting of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit juice, water, milk, cheeses, smoked salmon, various charcuterie, yogurt, fresh fruit, muesli, eggs, bacon, a variety of rolls, raisin bread, chocolate, honey, croissants, chocolate biscuits, and other sweets—in the bright orangery overlooking the garden. Enjoy a book in the cozy reading corner, and the honesty bar provides drinks at a fair price.

All in all, this oasis of tranquility in the bustling heart of Tongeren is ideal for exploring this oldest city in Belgium and the blossom-filled Haspengouw region. And there's also a private parking space with a charging station.

Surroundings

Haspengouw is also known as the Tuscany of Belgium. It's the perfect region for lovers of hiking and cycling, good food, nature, and culture. In spring, the region is famous for its beautiful fruit blossoms. As the oldest city in Belgium, Tongeren has plenty to offer. Ranging from museums and historic buildings to shops, terraces, pubs, and restaurants of all shapes and sizes (nowhere else are there as many Michelin-starred restaurants as here!). And then, of course, there's the Sunday antique market, which is famous far and wide. Maastricht, Bilzen, Sint-Truiden, and even Hasselt are also easily accessible.

At ’t Huys van Steyns, you’ll find yourself immersed in a slice of Belgian shoe-making history. This townhouse, built in 1892, was originally home to Louis Steyns, the founder of the prestigious shoe brand Ambiorix. The building has been carefully renovated, whilst preserving its connection to the past. As a result, the high ceilings and old parquet floors have been beautifully preserved.

Hasselt – known as the ‘city of taste’ for good reason – is compact, cosy, brimming with restaurants and cafés, surprisingly green, and offers a mix of culture, shopping and good food.
