History

D'Oude Dune is located in the heart of the historic center of Nieuwpoort on the highest and oldest point of the city - known since antiquity as Sandeshoved and later, after major harbor works in the 12th century, Novus Portus or Nieuwpoort. After the terrible devastation of ’14-18, d’Oude Dune was rebuilt in 1922 on the foundations of a medieval mansion. Together with the buildings next to d'Oude Dune, this is an example of reconstruction architecture after WWI. The current owners bought the property in 2018 and, with the help of their children, signed up for a beautiful restoration, incorporating modern comforts without compromising the characterful elements.
