4 chambre d'hôtes, gîte for 6 personen and table d'hôtes
These are the highlights
-
Jean loves to cook, whilst Nelleke loves to go all out when setting the table and even brings out the antique crockery from the cupboard.
-
For everyone’s enjoyment, there’s jeu de boules and pétanque, a table tennis table, darts and a shuffleboard, as well as the indoor wellness area with an infrared sauna and a large spa.
-
Jean & Nelleke are delighted to organise a trip to the vineyards of Chablis, Auxerrois or Sancerre – with a typical French lunch en route.
The two gatehouses of this idyllic summer castle on the market square of the village of Egleny are being renovated and each will have its own name. Maison Cocagne will have four charming chambres d’hôtes - each with its own toilet and bathroom and a separate séjour to enjoy together. The second building, Maison de la Porte Cochère, will be a gîte for two to eight guests. With four bedrooms, three with a shower, a separate bathroom, three toilets, a séjour, a fully equipped kitchen and a private covered terrace.
Besides the fact that a good breakfast is served in the dining room of the castle, you can also opt for tables d'hôtes. Jean likes to stand behind the stove and Nelleke makes a party of setting the table, complete with antique crockery.
Behind the Château, the park with its ancient trees awaits. The terrace invites for a cup of coffee or a glass in the sun and for everyone's entertainment there is jeu de boules and petanque, a tennis table, darts and shuffleboard. The indoor wellness has an infrared sauna and a large Spa. Car trips to the vineyards of Chablis, Auxerrois or Sancerre, with lunch at a typical French restaurant along the way, are organized by Jean & Nelleke.
Surroundings
The village of Égleny is located in Burgundy with numerous authentic villages, extensive forests, several lakes, museums, castles, flea markets and summer concerts. Close by is a beautiful 18-hole golf course, tennis court and three swimming pools. Marked mountain bike trails cross the Egleny market square. Just like various marked hiking trails. The historic city of Auxerre is well worth a visit. Just like the village of Saint-Fargeau For motorsport enthusiasts, it is interesting to visit the Magny-Cours circuit.
History
The summer castle of Égleny was built in 1865 at the time of King Napoleon III and has a special location right on the market square. The facade of the Château and the two turrets are designed in neo-renaissance architectural style and are protected by the French monument protection. In the meantime, the castle and the two gatehouses have been completely restored and renovated, whereby the authentic elements have been restored to their original state and in all their glory.

Just before the turn of the century, Jean and Nelleke bought an old French Maison de Maître as a holiday home. But Jean had wanted to be a lord of the castle ever since he was a child, so the search for a castle began shortly afterwards. In 2005, his dream came true with the idyllic little summer castle on the market square in the village of Egleny. At the same time, another wish was fulfilled: a chambres d’hôtes in Burgundy.
