Clos de la Comtesse

Gîtes up to 6 en for 2 + orangerie

These are the highlights

  • In the Périgord Noir (Dordogne), time seems to have stood still. This estate, with its centuries-old buildings, is just as evocative of times gone by.

  • In the former cistern, you’ll find a surprisingly heated swimming pool (in the middle of the garden, beneath one of the buildings).

  • During the season, both gîtes are only let together, including the orangery. After all, privacy is our top priority!

The Clos de la Comtesse estate extends over 15 hectares of forest, meadows and gardens and consists of various buildings. All buildings are situated around the courtyard. From the courtyard you have an enchanting view over the estate. Because the buildings are built against a hill, the various gardens, which you can of course also enjoy, lie on terraces. In the former citerne you will find a surprisingly heated swimming pool (in the middle of the garden under one of the buildings).

Two rustic furnished gîtes with an orangery await guests. Gîte cour is suitable for 4 to 6 people, located opposite the gite jardin and the orangery and has a rustic kitchen with refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, oven and a fireplace. Also on the ground floor is a bedroom with 2 single beds and a bathroom with bathtub and toilet. A bedroom with 4 single beds, private bathroom with shower, toilet and extra cot await you on the 1st floor.

Gîte jardin borders the orangery, can accommodate 2 people, consists of a bedroom with 2 single beds, a bathroom with bathtub and toilet. Furthermore, the gite has a kitchen with refrigerator, stove, oven and fireplace. The orangery is a high, light, cozy space with a cozy seating area and a large wood-burning stove. This space is multi-purpose and can be used by the guests of the gîtes. There are enough tables and chairs for a joint dinner. Washing machine and dryer are available.

The two gîtes are great to use for example 4 adults and 4 children. In the season only both gîtes including the orangery are rented, so that privacy is guaranteed. Outside of the months of May-June-July-August there is also the possibility to rent one of the gîtes. A few weeks a year we also rent out the main house, then 6 sleeping places are added.

Surroundings

The Clos de la Comtesse estate is located 3 kilometers from the Dordogne river in the hilly Veyrignac countryside. The area lends itself to numerous sporting activities such as walking, cycling, golf and water sports. There are several good restaurants, not to mention the cozy marches gourmands. Also the beautiful and authentic Sarlat; the markets in Gourdon, Souillac; the caves of Lascaux and Cougnac, the stalactite caves of Padirac; the towns of Rocamadour and Domme and the many castles and gardens. The Musée Zadkine in Les Arques is also worth a visit.

History

Time has stood still in the Perigord Noir (Dordogne). This estate with its various centuries-old buildings is reminiscent of days gone by. Clos de la Comtesse extends over 15 hectares of forest, meadows and gardens. This was once a bustling farm, but now there is nothing but peace. There are different buildings. All situated around the cour (courtyard): a beautiful lockable inner garden that is also an entrance to the buildings. The cour is bordered on the east side by a wall that offers a fascinating view of the estate's forests and meadows. The current owners, a Dutch couple, cherish the estate and its buildings with love and dedication.

Sarlat-la-Canéda is perhaps the most beautiful medieval town in the Dordogne. Everything here is made of golden-coloured natural stone, with narrow streets and culinary delights.

Rocamadour isn’t a place to just visit. It’s a place to experience. Walk around, climb up and keep looking back, wondering how on earth it can exist.
