De Jonge Barones

This former notary house is one of the most beautiful buildings in Beetsterzwaag, is located in the main street and is surrounded by parks and forests. The building has been beautifully renovated so that you will not lack comfort. The rooms of De Jonge Barones are on the 1st floor. Along the gallery of former noble residents, the monumental staircase leads to your guest house. That extends over the entire front of the property and measures no less than 70m2.

The bedroom is spacious and romantic, with antique furniture and a large bed with soft linens. The adjoining bathroom is, exactly as you would expect, fully equipped - rain shower, hand shower, spacious sink, bathrobes and slippers. The distinguished living room, which has a beautiful view over the lively Main Street, is a nice place to relax. The high ceilings and partly antique furniture give the room its 19th century charm. With a little imagination you can still see the young baroness sitting here, enjoying a cup of tea and a good book. The living room has everything that can make your stay more pleasant - fridge, microwave, coffee and tea making facilities, television and the possibility to listen to your own music.

When the weather is nice, you can relax in the 60-metre-deep garden behind the house, where the owners have created your own place. Gardens and parks are characteristic of Beetsterzwaag. The beautiful 19th century dining room invites you for an authentic breakfast. In good weather, you will be covered outside. If you prefer to prepare your own breakfast, the living room provides all the necessary facilities. Within 200 meters you will find a bakery, supermarket and delicatessen.

Especially for their guests, the owners have been able to make an appointment with Historisch Beetsterzwaag for a personal one-hour tour of the many historic buildings and gardens in the village. As you walk, your guide will be happy to share some tasty stories about the life of nobility.

Surroundings

Beetsterzwaag can safely be called unique. For example, the Seven Forests of Beetsterzwaag are not only special in terms of landscape, but also in terms of historical value. They were created by the construction of estates and country estates by the nobility in the 18th and 19th centuries. The forests have different owners and are managed differently, so that each forest has its own character. The lake area and various national parks are also within easy reach, so that water sports are just as possible as hiking and cycling. If you are looking for culture, Leeuwarden, with a variety of historic buildings, museums, galleries and theaters, is just a short distance away. Even more entertainment can be found in bustling Groningen, the student city of the Netherlands. And if that wasn't enough, you can also play golf or the varied 18-hole course of Landgoed Lauswolt just outside the village and there are no fewer than three renowned restaurants in Beetsterzwaag.

History

Beetsterzwaag originated somewhere between the years 1000 and 1200. From the end of the 18th century, when Rijnhard van Lynden settled here, the village became known as a 'posh village'. In the 19th century, five noble families from Beetsterzwaag owned more than 16,000 hectares of land in the area. They had a considerable number of mansions built with so-called overgardens. The Hoofdstraat, at least three and a half centuries old, still has many monumental buildings and gardens that shine as silent witnesses of the wealthy noble residents of that time. The building of De Jonge Barones has had different owners and changing destinations over the centuries, but has been privately occupied again since 1990. The residents of that time signed up for a restoration that lasted 13 years and brought back many original details. In 2021 Berend and Roelina Vis became the proud owners. The design they chose does justice to the building and its history.
