Privacy, space, tranquillity and comfort are the keywords when describing this lovely holiday home for two to six people. On the ground floor there’s a spacious living room, fully equipped open kitchen, luxurious bathroom, and a utility room with washing machine. There are two bedrooms on the first floor with five beds of hotel quality. In the third, small room, there is a sixth bed.
At the rear there’s a spacious terrace that borders on the private forest. De Oude Zondagschool (The Old Sunday School) is self-catering. Ingredients for the first breakfast can be arranged.
Surroundings
De Oude Zondagschool is located near the town of Aalten in the beautiful Achterhoek. The house is surrounded by meadows and woods. Opportunities for walking and cycling are boundless. There are restaurants in nearby Aalten. Winterswijk, with the Rietveld Museum, the book town of Bredevoort and the Open Air Museum in Lievelde, are all nearby. You can also play golf, swim, and go horse riding in the area.
History
This monument dates back to 1924 and was thoroughly and respectfully restored to its traditional character. For years, the building served as a Sunday school for the rural youth.
The host
The host
Sandra and Jeroen welcomed their first guests to their Oude Zondagschool in 2014, and two years later they moved back to the Achterhoek themselves. Their little 1950s farmhouse was made energy-neutral. The Oude Zondagschool was first made highly energy-efficient and was subsequently made even more sustainable. As of 2021, the house has been disconnected from the gas supply and is now heated by a heat pump.
