Herberg de Zwaan Elspeet

13 rooms and a restaurant

These are the highlights

  • Hospitality is in the very DNA of this inn, which dates back to 1882. After all, it has always been a place where travellers could find a home away from home.

  • During the last major renovation, the centuries-old window frames were carefully restored.

  • Breakfast is served in the Spijslokaal, where you can also enjoy an excellent lunch, drinks or dinner.

Right next to the beautiful nature of the Veluwe you find these unique rooms in a unique building. It's the result of a major renovation that had to transform this centuries-old inn into a luxurious boutique hotel with thirteen delightful rooms. Each room is different, in terms of layout, size and furnishing. Air conditioning, WiFi, a rain shower and smart TV, a comfortable double box spring, coffee machine with capsules and kettle are standard.

The ceilings are high, the age-old window frames have been restored with care. The seven rooms on the first floor have a veranda or a French balcony with French doors.

The delicious breakfast is served in the Spijslokaal where both guests and passers-by can also enjoy an excellent lunch, drink or dinner.

Surroundings

Herberg de Zwaan is the ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts and bon vivants. In the midst of the forests, sand drifts and heaths around Uddel, Elspeet, Vierhouten and Nunspeet and with the former Zuiderzee in the vicinity, there is plenty to do and experience here. In addition to the beautiful nature of the Veluwe, the old fishing town of Harderwijk, the royal Apeldoorn and the fortified town of Elburg are all within cycling distance.

History

Herberg de Zwaan is located in a small monumental hotel from 1882 in the heart of the authentic village of Elspeet on the Veluwe. The building has been completely restored to its former glory inside and out and has thirteen rooms and a Spijslokaal. This makes it an inn again as an inn was once intended: a place where the traveler could relax, could spend the night and where the inner man was also strengthened.

The host

Petra van Wijk

Erik van Wijk has inherited his passion for the hospitality industry from his grandfather, who moved from Amsterdam to Elspeet after the war to work as a head chef. His wife, Petra, comes from a family of entrepreneurs. It becomes clear the moment you step inside De Zwaan that, together, they have everything it takes to run a boutique hotel with a restaurant of distinction.

In the narrow streets around Harderwijk’s Vischmarkt, the Hanseatic atmosphere is still very much in evidence: old buildings, city walls and charming squares all feature in turn.

Elburg is one of the best-preserved fortified towns in the Netherlands. Small, charming, delightfully compact, with medieval streets, an old harbour and a history linked to the Hanseatic League.
