Slot Loevestein

In the traditional Dutch river landscape, where the rivers Maas and Waal come together, you will find the fortress of Slot Loevestein, where you can spend the night in one of the three luxurious rooms or in the picturesque soldier's house in a beautiful old commander's house. Two entire families used to live in that soldier's house. Now it is comfortably furnished for the two of you and two floors are at your disposal. With a toilet on the ground floor and shower and bedroom on the first floor and views of the castle from every floor.

And now on to the rooms. The officers' room to start with is nice and luxurious. With a double bed and a bathroom with bath, shower and toilet and a beautiful view of the castle and the Waal. It is possible to add one or two extra beds here. The commander's room is similar to the officers' room and overlooks the castle. It is also possible to add one or two extra beds here. Finally, the committee room only has a shower while the private toilet is in the hallway. Here you have a view of the gardens of the soldiers' houses.

Breakfast with organic and regional products is waiting for you in the breakfast room and especially for those who want to dine on Loevestein, the Tavern is open in the evening between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. There is a choice of a meat, fish or vegetarian main course and if you prefer to dine outside the gate you can go to Woudrichem or Gorinchem where you can use the water taxi that will bring you and pick you up!

Surroundings

Although there is plenty to do and experience on Loevestein, you can also enjoy nature and the river landscape in the area. There are plenty of cycling and walking opportunities. Culture and entertainment can be found in Woudrichem or Gorinchem and a little further away, Den Bosch and Utrecht.

History

Knight Dirc Loef van Horne had his castle built here in 1358, where Maas and Waal meet. At the time, it was ideal for levying tolls, nowadays part of the Dutch Waterline and placed on the World Heritage List by Unesco and also ideal for an overnight stay or an outing. For the latter, there is plenty to do in the castle, the outer bailey and the soldier's village. In the museum you will learn about Hugo de Groot, the Middle Ages and the Dutch Waterline. Games let you learn about gunpowder and weapons and in the basement you can feel the experience of high water. Everyone gets a key to discover everything.
