B&B Fleur de Lit

3 spacious guestrooms

These are the highlights

  • The B&B is housed in the detached, listed barn, dating from around 1890, which forms part of the listed farmstead De Götte.

  • The gardens alone are reason enough to want to stay here. And – provided you show a little respect – you’re even allowed to make use of them.

  • In the old orchard, the wood-fired barrel sauna has been set up and can be booked as part of a package.

Central in Achterhoek region is B&B Fleur de Lit situated. The owners, Peter and Henriëtte had the detached barn converted into a environmentally friendly B&B. In three spacious guest rooms ‘the old is united with the new’. Old stable doors and and-framework and oak trunk boards, but also underfloor heating and modern bathrooms with rain shower in the 2 downstairs rooms, a modern free-standing bath with separate shower over. All rooms have corners to sit and Nespresso coffee machines. The mostly organic breakfast will be served in the large, high common room with seating area and fireplace or in the garden in fine weather.

Henriëtte is a landscape architect and together with her husband they are avid gardeners and constantly shaping their 6000 sq. meter estate further. A new orchard, nuttery and pond garden are now in place. Other endeavours are in the planning like white-, cottage- and vegetable garden. Guest may use all the gardens as well the wood heated barrel sauna, which can be booked.

On arrival you'll be served a drink with a little snack to make you feel welcome.

Surroundings

B&B Fleur de Lits is part of the township ‘De Bruil’ in the beautiful farmlands (bocage) just south of the village of Ruurlo. On short distance from the forestry and Castle museum ‘More’ and alongside the ’Baakse’ brook you can wander into the back entrance of the Castle gardens. Cycling routes and long-distance walking paths are very near. The village of Ruurlo has several restaurants, eating places, various shops and terraces. Henriëtte end Peter can advice you on many activities in the region, like for instance visiting the largest Dutch Maze or cactus oasis. Two Golf Courses are in the vicinity.

History

B&B Fleur de Lit is housed in the detached barn dating back to approx. 1890 and belonging to the historic farm ’The Götte’. The farm itself was rebuild in 1867 and is already shown on topographic maps in 1845. It’s assumed that already in the 18th century inhabitation occurred. The last extension dates to 1929, which is visible in the vintage anchor situated in the former inside working area (Deel) of the farm. The renovated state, which consists of 2/3 of the barn, is the B&B. While maintaining as much as possible authentic elements and reuse of old materials, a beautiful mix of authentic and modern comfort is realised. By using solar panels, organic heat pump and natural isolation materials B&B Fleur de Lit is eco-friendly and energy neutral. The not converted part is (deliberately) still in original state.

Peter Maat en Henriëtte Pieterson

When Peter and Henriëtte met in the early 1990s, it soon became clear that they shared a ‘passion for nature’. Years later, when they fell in love with a charming little farmhouse in a small hamlet just south of Ruurlo, they were able to combine that passion beautifully with hospitality. And so Fleur de Lit became what it is today: a welcoming home with beautiful rooms and a garden like the Garden of Eden.
