The fitted interior, equipped with absolutely every modern convenience, can be described as contemporary yet grand, with a nod to the 1930s.
The Wad is just a stone's throw away and the city of Groningen is 25 km south. Kantens is the name of the village where the journey is going; a small radial mound with about 700 inhabitants. On the north side of the village, against the flank of the mound and slightly dug in, is the former VADO bus garage. On the street side, the expressionist brick facade stands out. A special holiday home for two awaits behind the facade. Adjacent to the adjacent square and enclosed by the garden.
The built-in interior, fully equipped, can be called contemporary monumental with a nod to the 1930s. On the ground floor you will find an entrance with separate toilet and a large living room adjacent to the kitchen and utility room. The spacious comfortable bedroom with bathroom and built-in wardrobes is reached via the easily accessible staircase.
The kitchen is very complete, the utility room is equipped with a washing machine, among other things. Furthermore, the house is equipped with wall and floor heating, a smart ventilation system, WiFi and TV/internet.
Surroundings
Walking, cycling, getting a breath of fresh air and enjoying. With the Wad just a stone's throw away, that should not be a problem. The city of Groningen, with shops, terraces, museums, restaurants and bars, is very easy to reach. A supermarket, drugstore and bakery can be found at 4 km. distance in Middlestum. In Westerwijtwerd, the Huiskamercafé is worth a visit and a regional products market can be found on the Ewsum borg. In Onderdendam you can eat well at Restaurant de Molenaar.
History
In 2005 Harry and Marion Haak bought this property with the aim of living and working there. However, it is in a sorry state and the restoration that can make their dream come true will take more than fifteen years. All the more so because the necessary measures must also be taken in view of the earthquakes. The work has now been completed and the fun can begin. The holiday home was in the former bus shed, or the depot. Behind the large entrance doors is a glass front with access. A photo of a tour group from the early 1930s has been projected on it in shades of green, as if it were a modern stained glass painting. With the conversion into a holiday home, history is complete. The former bus depot has itself become a holiday destination.

When Harry & Marion Haak bought this property in 2005, it was in a dreadful state and only a major restoration could save it. That restoration took around 15 years – partly to make it safer in the event of earthquakes. In 2018, their prized property was granted listed status. Truly the crowning glory of their work.
