Surrounded by farmland and bordering the woods, this historic farmhouse is also close to Maastricht and offers a choice of two lovely cottages. They are rented on a self-catering basis, though a well-stocked breakfast basket can be ordered.
The Poorthuis is situated in the part of the “Geverikerhof” that gave this farm its characteristic square form. The living room displays an attractive combination of antique furniture with modern equipment. In the living room is also a fully equipped free standing cooker. The upper floor has a bathroom, a comfortable bedroom with a nice double bed and a small but cosy upstairs room with two separate beds. On the terrace of the patio you can fully relax after a healthy walk in the woods or a day out shopping in Maastricht. The Cortenhuisje is located at the back of the Geverikerhof, offering a lot of privacy. This comfortable guesthouse for two persons covers 60 m², consisting of a large living room, a bedroom, a bathroom with shower, a separate toilet and a fully equipped kitchen. The living room, provided with a television, a hifi set, books and games, overlooks the thickets and orchards where often deer can be spotted. In summertime guests can use the wonderful private terrace.
Surroundings
The artists’ village of Geverik is surrounded by farmland and borders the Kelmonderbos, a nature reserve. These rare wooded hills are situated on the Keutelbeek, a stream that meanders through marshy meadows and swampy forests. This region abounds in a wide variety of birds and bats, and large badger burrows are not uncommon either. The surroundings are known for their scenic walking trails that lead through the Mergelland area, along winding paths and typical half-timbered farmhouses. The most beautiful spots just across the border in Belgium can easily be reached by bicycle. The medieval city of Maastricht is only 15 minutes by car, and Aachen, Liège and Hasselt are a half hour’s drive from Geverik.
History
The history of this national heritage property dates from long before the French occupation period. Estimates show that the vaulted cellars date from before 1200. The bakehouse in the garden has been converted by the inhabitants into a cosy little café. In the old chapel, situated on the edge of the garden, holy mass is celebrated on Sundays.
