Family hotel with rooms, suites, and holiday apartments

These are the highlights

  • The rooms overlook the courtyard or the surrounding hills.

  • Old beams and half-timbering have been preserved throughout.

  • On sunny, warm days, you can enjoy the sheltered terrace and the garden at the back.

Farmhouse De Plei has a total of 17 guest rooms and suites. Some rooms are suitable for families with children. The rooms overlook the courtyard or the surrounding hills. A few rooms are on the ground floor. The suites feature a sitting area and TV. Although all rooms are different in colour, size and arrangement, they all are equipped with a private bathroom and super comfortable Hästens beds!

On the ground floor are three beautiful rooms for common use of the guests. By the fireplace, around the reading table and in the TV room are inviting comfortable armchairs for a chat and/or a drink. On warm and sunny days the sheltered terrace at the back can be used. Breakfast is served in the dining room. For children there is a complete playground.

Surroundings

Farmhouse De Plei is on the edge of the picturesque village of Mechelen, located in the rolling hills of Limburg. Opportunities to enjoy both nature and culture are numerous. Even the most experienced hikers and cyclists will have a great time here, and also golfers and horse lovers can indulge their passion. Maastricht and Aachen are closeby, as well as Liege.

History

This square farmhouse with courtyard (‘plei’ in Limburg dialect) dates from around 1740. The farm is a good example of timber framing. In the scenery the timbered house stands out by its contrasting colours and beams. Although the Limburg timbered farmhouse is without any decoration, the houses in our neighbouring countries are very often artistically constructed and decorated with carvings. From 1938 the farm has been occupied by the Van Houtem family, who first managed a mixed farm. In 1968 it also became a pension and in 1981 the stables and barns definitely made way for guest rooms. Meanwhile, the former farm has been completely restored and modernized by Tom and Saskia van Houtem.
