Apollofirst Boutique Hotel Amsterdam

Rooms, suites, and an apartment

These are the highlights

  • Apollofirst is a family-run hotel – run by a father and son – which means you can still count on the old-fashioned kind of personal attention here

  • On the ground floor, you’ll find a bar and the breakfast room, which opens onto the sunny courtyard garden.

  • The hotel has a small private theatre where many renowned performers have appeared over the years (check the website for the current programme!).

The rooms, suites and the studio - with a kitchenette so you can stay there for a long time - are on the upper floors, but there is an elevator and that is not given to every Amsterdam hotel. There are different room types, ranging from a single standard room to an executive suite with a sofa bed for a third person or two children. The studio has a kitchen and balcony. The decor is classic. With rich fabrics, plenty of cushions and beautiful wallpaper motifs. The beds are, just as befits a four-star hotel in the capital, of the highest quality and every possible comfort, up to and including a safe, refrigerator, movie channel, wonderful bathroom and air conditioning.

On the ground floor you will find the bar, the breakfast room that borders the sunny courtyard, the conservatory that overlooks the street, the reception and the small private theater with 55 seats. Over the years, many renowned artists have already made an appearance here to have a drink with the guests in the bar after the performance. You can find an up-to-date program on the hotel's website.

Surroundings

Speaking of an ideal location: the Museumplein with the Stedelijk, Rijks- and Van Gogh museums is within walking distance. Just like the historic city center, the RAI and the Zuidas. Art Zuid is organized every two years on Apollolaan itself: the open-air Sculpture Biennale with no less than 5 km of artworks that can be viewed free of charge. In the Beethovenstraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat and P.C. Hooftstraat can be visited on the stand and the Albert Cuyp market and the Flower market can also be reached on foot.

History

The hotel is located in three stately mansions dating back to the early last century and built in the Amsterdam School style. The hotel has been run by the Venmans family for over forty years. Mother and son cherish their property and are happy to share it with their guests.

In 1978, the Apollofirst Hotel – which already comprised two buildings at the time – was purchased by Louise (Wies) Venmans. Two years later, the third building was acquired. The entire hotel was stylishly renovated, respecting its heritage whilst striking a balance with the present. Her son, Rick Venmans, took over the management of the hotel at the right time, and Louise herself now manages the Apollofirst Theatre.
