Spinoza Suites

2 design suites

These are the highlights

  • The townhouse was built in 1873 by the Dutch architect H. Overeem as a family home in the Plantage/Weesperbuurt neighbourhood.

  • The suites were designed by the Belgian architect Aldo Chermanne, who is based in Stockholm.

  • Breakfast is available, if desired, at the adjacent 5-star Hyatt Regency hotel.

Spinoza Suites is housed in a characteristic and monumental building on the Singelgracht, on the edge of the center of Amsterdam. There are two suites, the Canal suite overlooking the canal and the Garden suite overlooking the green inner garden. The suites were designed by the Belgian architect Aldo Chermanne, who is based in Stockholm. His Scandinavian influence is reflected in, among other things, the rare green marble from Northern Sweden and can be found in the luxurious bathrooms with rain shower and underfloor heating.

The atmosphere of the suites can be described as retro design with an edge, a lot of natural materials such as oak herringbone floors and wooden paneling have been used. Spinoza Suites also works with top brands such as Flos for the lighting, Auping for the wonderful beds and Marie-Stella-Maris for the more than delightful care products. The suites include a sitting area, a desk to work on, a flat screen television, a laptop safe, a complementary minibar and coffee and tea making facilities with free coffee and tea.

Breakfast is optionally served in the adjacent 5-star Hyatt Regency hotel, where you can also use the gym and health spa for a small additional cost.

Surroundings

Spinoza Suites is located in the Plantage / Weesperbuurt in the center of Amsterdam. What makes this neighborhood so unique is that it is a relatively quiet part of the center, yet only a few steps from all attractions. Artis, Carré and the Hermitage museum are a few minutes' walk away. There is a metro station in the street, through which the other parts of the center can be easily reached. As well tere are many restaurants and bars in the immediate vicinity of the suites.

History

The mansion that houses Spinoza Suites was built in 1873 by the Dutch architect H. Overeem as a family home in the Plantage / Weesperbuurt. This area was already enclosed by the city walls in 1663, but it took almost 200 years before it was built, making it the only 19th-century urban development in the center of the city. As part of the former Jewish Quarter, the Second World War left deep marks in the area.
