Surroundings

The Oude Kapel is very centrally located and is therefore the ideal place to discover both the bustling Utrecht city center and the beautiful nature of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. As far as the latter is concerned, you will hardly find such a pleasant variety of culture and nature anywhere else in the Netherlands. Royal estates, picturesque villages and endless forests and heaths alternate and there are also plenty of restaurants in all price ranges.

History

Churches have always been a meeting place, and the same goes for the Old Chapel, which dates back to the mid-20th century and was built as an auxiliary church for holidaymakers and visitors to the conference centers in the area. The number of churchgoers was still growing at that time, so that in 1960 the Maranatha Church was added and the auxiliary church was used as an association and youth building. The Maranatha Church was demolished in 2014 after a long period of vacancy. Fortunately, the old auxiliary church was spared and now, after extensive renovation, serves as a B&B, making it a place that connects people and where guests feel at home and relax. Various authentic elements from the Maranatha Church have been preserved and reused, including the beautiful stained-glass concrete windows, a pew and the original church bell.
