These are the highlights

  • The B&B is situated in a centuries-old, listed wooden thatched barn, set within an estate covering no less than 25 hectares.

  • In the summer, there’s a beach hut you’re welcome to use if you’re spending the day at the beach.

  • Breakfast is mostly organic, with plenty of local specialities, and you can let them know your preferences in advance so that everything can be prepared fresh.

B&B 'Groot ter Hooge' has only one suite. The suite is situated in the ancient, monumental barn on a country estate: a nature reserve of no less than 25 ha near the city centre of Middelburg. On the estate is also a castle. The room is for two persons and has a bathroom with shower and bath. There is free Wi-Fi, flat screen TV with Netflix and there are tea and coffee making facilities. Bikes can be rented in the neighborhood.

Breakfast is most biologically with many regional dishes. You may specify your wishes in advance, so that everything can be cooked super fresh! In the neighborhood are several (rewarded) restaurants. For lovers of mussels, lobster and oysters, the oyster banks of Yerseke is a must.

Surroundings

Hikers will enjoy this area. In the Woods around the Castle are different species of trees, a large number of types of mushrooms (over 200!) and lots of birds (about 40 species). There are two hiking trails. The first leads through the Park, the second through the meadows. The center of Middelburg is only ten minutes walking, the beach ten minutes by car. Nearby are historic towns such as Veere, Zierikzee, Goes and Domburg. Slightly further away are Antwerp, Ghent, Damme, Knokke and Bruges.

And as a bonus: do try one of those lovely, sticky, still-warm Zeeland boluses (a bun with brown sugar and cinnamon) somewhere. They’re practically part of the cultural heritage here.
