Your holiday home is situated in what was once the gardener’s cottage and – quite fittingly – has its own garden.
Speaking of the ideal location: Buitenplaats Duinbeek, where your holiday home is situated, is located in De Manteling, a protected nature reserve on the coast of Walcheren. It is just outside the village of Oostkapelle, on the edge of a woodland, at the foot of the dunes and, what’s more, close to the beach. On the estate, at the end of a tree-lined driveway, stand three buildings. These are surrounded by various lawns, meadows, woodland, an orchard, several terraces and a moat that flows into a small stream in the woods.
One of these buildings, the gardener’s cottage, has been beautifully converted into a holiday home for up to eight people. On the ground floor is the kitchen-diner (complete with an induction hob, oven, washing machine, fridge-freezer, kettle, toaster, coffee machine and all the usual kitchen utensils), the sitting room with a wood-burning stove, and a large bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and separate toilet. Upstairs there are a further three bedrooms, each with two single beds, and a second bathroom with a toilet and shower.
Surroundings
You know you’re in Zeeland when the air turns salty and the views become expansive. What’s more, Zeeland enjoys the most hours of sunshine in the whole of the Netherlands. Walcheren is the holiday destination par excellence, offering the perfect combination of sea, beach, dunes, woods, polders, historic villages and towns. Your holiday home is on the outskirts of the village, at the foot of the dunes and practically by the sea. Cycling, walking, swimming, horse riding, good food, soaking up the culture and shopping are all on the cards. From the holiday home, you can walk along charming paths to Oostkapelle – with its shops and restaurants – in half an hour. Middelburg and Veere are ten kilometres away, and Domburg is just three kilometres away.

Duinbeek, a listed building, has a history dating back to the 14th century. The original fortification was destroyed during the siege of Middelburg in 1572. In 1715, the present country house, built in the classical style, was constructed on that site. The structure and, to some extent, the details of this architecture have been beautifully preserved. Today, Duinbeek is primarily a beautifully renovated and well-maintained family home.
