Landgoed Twistvliet
5 guest accommodations for 2 to 6, country-style cottages, outdoor cottages
These are the highlights
-
The English country style refers to the period when Walcheren traded extensively with England and Scotland.
-
A horse-drawn carriage ride to the woods or to Veere is optional.
-
There are also (simple) country cottages and outdoor cottages available to rent on the estate.
The former barn was converted into five luxurious, English-style guest accommodations for two to six persons each. The fully equipped country kitchens are handmade by craftsmen and feature world-famous AGA cookers, as well as other modern conveniences. The bedrooms are located on the entresol and downstairs. Each of the accommodations has a south-facing private terrace with outdoor furniture and a garden umbrella. All afford lovely views across the fields and meadows. A child’s bed and high chair are available on request. Breakfast is served in the manor house or the guest accommodations.
The estate also offers rural cottages and outdoor cottages. However, not the same level of comfort applies as the guesthouses described above!Â
Surroundings
The village of Vrouwenpolder – known for its broad, more than five-kilometre-long beaches – is situated on the northern shores of Walcheren, one kilometre from the sea. Guests have a wide choice of outdoor cafés, restaurants and other entertainment options between Domburg and Veere. The area is also ideally suited for walking, cycling and water sports. Oranjezon, part of a nature reserve and a delightful walking area, is located on the north-western shores of Walcheren, just outside the village centre. This 400-ha area is managed by The Zeeland Landscape Foundation and constitutes part of the Manteling van Walcheren, which was proclaimed a nature reserve in 1988. On request, guests have the opportunity to explore the estate on their own, either by horse and wagon, on horseback or by Land Rover.
History
In the old days, Twistvliet (built in 1870) was a stately homestead with a gentlemen’s room, living room and a large live-in kitchen. Later on, the country estate was used as a farm. After the present owner purchased the farm with its outbuildings and the 36 ha of land belonging to the estate, he and his partner started extensive renovations of the premises. Meanwhile, Hofstede has been restored to its former glory and captivates with its charming English country style. Vrouwenpolder is situated in the Walcheren region of Zeeland, which for a long time maintained close business ties with England and Scotland.
