Recent and extensive renovations brought back the vanished authentic details. Since then the guesthouse breathes the times of Louis Couperus again, when it was built. Convenience and design go hand in hand. The design of the dining/living room, the four spacious and luxurious suites and the two full floor apartments is both warm and austere. With chocolate brown walls, wooden floors, big anthracite tiles in the fully equipped bathrooms, marble mantelpieces and black woodwork in old fashioned gloss paint. Personal attention is very important. Guests can indicate their preferences for drinks and breakfast in advance. They can choose from down-filled or synthetic duvets or thin or thick pillows. In the morning, an optional newspaper comes with the coffee.
Surroundings
Duinoord is on the periphery of the city centre. The museums, restaurants sidewalk cafés, theatres and places of interest are as close as the beaches of Scheveningen.
History
The Sweelinck square is in the middle of Duinoord, an area on the periphery of the centre of The Hague. Dignified streets lie in an oval around what is called “the most beautiful square of the Netherlands”. The two green parks are surrounded by Neo-Renaissance style historical buildings. The square came into existence after 1892, and in that very period this grand residence was built. In 1972 the complete Sweelinck square was marked as a National Monument.

This lovely neighbourhood was originally developed to welcome repatriates from the Dutch East Indies. Petra and Frank consider it a privilege to honour the original purpose of their townhouse: to offer warm hospitality to visitors to The Hague and make them feel truly at home in this beautiful city.
