Suite Hotel Pincoffs

17 rooms and suites

Imagine a Suite Hotel in a national monument on the Kop van Zuid in Rotterdam. Very fashionable and also nice and small-scale so that there is still enough time to help you on your way with tips about the best restaurants, the best outings or the hippest places in the city. The seventeen rooms and suites are all decorated differently with an exciting mix of design, vintage and antiques, but all equipped with every possible modern comfort and with fantastic views of the Nieuwe Maas river, the old harbors and the Rotterdam skyline.

The two Corner Suites have an extra whirlpool. There is also a Romantic Suite with English bathroom and fireplace and a Junior Suite - with a view of the Erasmus Bridge - with a small kitchen and refrigerator. The family suite is comfortably furnished for two adults and two or three children and the four Mezzanine rooms consist of two floors, so you can choose to sleep upstairs or bathe upstairs.

In the nostalgic clerk's room of the old Customs building you will find the fashionable hotel lounge bar. In comfortable chairs and sofas around the fireplace - or on the terrace - you can enjoy an organic breakfast or a simple lunch with first-class ingredients. Tastings are served from 4 pm and dinner for a group of six or more is served on request. In addition, there are several restaurants within walking distance where you can go.

Surroundings

Speaking of an ideal location: Pincoffs is located on the Kop van Zuid and only a few hundred meters from the Erasmus Bridge. Right next to the hotel are the Entrepothaven and the Binnenhaven with numerous sunny terraces and restaurants of all shapes and sizes. As a guest of Pincoffs you can use Guest Compass (a digital city guide) and bicycles can be rented on site. The water taxi, which takes you across the river in six minutes, stops right outside. You will also find the Nieuwe Luxor Theater, Nederlands Fotomuseum, Las Palmas II, LantarenVenster, De Markthal, Katendrecht, the famous bridges (Erasmus Bridge, Willemsbrug, De Hef), ss Rotterdam and Noordereiland within walking distance.

History

The hotel is located in a former customs office at the old harbors and is named after Louis Pincoffs: a colorful businessman, harbor baron, politician, journalist and cigar farmer from the 19th century. His ideas sparked the unprecedented growth of Rotterdam into the world's largest port in the 1960s and his stories of fraud and his flight to New York can be found here. Right next to the hotel is a statue of Pincoffs, made by sculptor Willem Verbon. One of the few statues without a pedestal. "A spectacle of so much glory and so much shame," it says on the bronze plaque at his feet.

The adventure in the derelict customs house, dating from 1879, began for Karen Hamerlynck and Edwin van der Meijde in 2002 when, at the invitation of Stadsherstel Historisch Rotterdam, they stepped inside this listed building for the first time. They were enchanted by it and immediately envisaged a small-scale boutique hotel where guests could experience the raw romance of Rotterdam’s harbour. That hotel opened its doors in March 2008. Sixteen years later, Karen Hamerlynck and Edwin van der Meijde are passing the baton to hotel manager Marjolein van Asperen and her partner Milo Pennings.
