Art en Route

4 rooms and 4 holiday apartments

These are the highlights

  • What was once an old, dilapidated silk farm is now a little slice of paradise.

  • From the spacious balcony, you can look out over the swimming pool and the green hills in the distance; on a clear day, you can even see Mont Ventoux.

  • There’s art hanging or standing everywhere (remember Art en Route?). Sculptures in the garden, paintings on the walls (some painted by our hostess, Marie Louise).

An old dilapidated silk farm in the Ardèche grew, after a thorough, single-handed renovation of six years, into a paradise. 'Art en Route' is the name of the atmospheric B&B with four rooms and four holiday apartments. The design is aimed at letting you fully enjoy the artistic atmosphere and total peace - that is why children are not welcome here.

As for the rooms: they are all for two, super complete and atmospheric and equipped with every possible comfort. Two rooms have a kitchenette. The four gîtes are also equipped with everything possible to give you an unforgettable time. Three gîtes are spaciously furnished for two people and one is large enough for a maximum of three guests. You will quickly feel at home between the romantic old stones of Art en Route and owner Marie Louise does everything she can to enhance that feeling. For example, she prepares an organic tables d'hôtes once a week - with vegetables and fruit from her own vegetable garden - and the ordered breakfast, which is ready for you on the terrace, is also fresh and extensive. Furthermore, walking, cycling maps and even bicycles can be borrowed and Marie Louise gives tips for nice restaurants, villages and beautiful swimming spots in rivers in the area.

And then the atmosphere of the farm itself... The building has been renovated with great taste and attention to detail! Marie Louise has added some brocante items and easy chairs here and there, for a French atmosphere and some extra comfort. And there is art hanging or standing everywhere! Statues in the garden, paintings on the walls. Various works of art are by Marie Louise, who makes beautiful abstract paintings.

In and around the house there are many nice corners to read a book or just relax. Like the spacious balcony above the swimming pool, with a beautiful view of the green hills in the distance where you can even see Mont Ventoux in clear weather!

Surroundings

Marie Louise welcomes you, here in the beautiful surroundings of the nature reserve of the Monts d'Ardèche and not far from the village of Largentière. The most famous attractions of the Ardèche (such as Vallon Pont d'Arc) are just far enough away, so that this northern part of the region retains its pure atmosphere even in the summer. Aubenas, a somewhat larger city with a pleasant historic city centre, is 20 km away. The attractive and lively market town of Largentière is only 7 km away. In the vicinity there are no less than 9 places that are qualified as 'village de caractère'. In Largentière there is a silk museum, in St. Remèze a lavender museum. The caves are also a sight to behold. As are the many markets. Water sports enthusiasts, hikers and cyclists can also indulge themselves here.

History

The history of this silk farm of yesteryear goes back centuries. After a thorough, single-handed renovation of six years, this paradise with four charming B&B rooms and four holiday apartments slowly but surely emerged.

Amidst the romantic old stone walls of Art en Route, you’ll soon feel right at home, and owner Marie Louise does everything she can to ensure this: plenty of personal attention, bikes available from the house, and personalised tips for tailor-made outings. And then there’s the atmosphere inside: the building has been renovated with a keen sense of style and an eye for detail, and to add to the French ambience and provide a little extra comfort, Marie Louise has added second-hand finds and comfortable chairs that she sourced herself.
