Thury, Burgundy

Manoir Bonpassage is situated in the village of Thury, in the heart of Burgundy, a charming, hilly region between the Côte d’Or wine region and Le Morvan Nature Park. The surrounding area is characterised by tranquillity, vast natural landscapes and picturesque French villages. Burgundy also has much to offer in terms of cultural history. The world-famous Hôtel-Dieu in Beaune (35 km) is certainly worth a visit. You can enjoy a lovely stroll through the beautiful old town centres of Autun (25 km) and Dijon (80 km), with their covered markets, outdoor cafés and shops. The Côte d’Or is one of the world’s most famous wine regions, situated in the heart of Burgundy. Captivating wine villages such as Santenay, Meursault, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges are just a 30-minute drive from Manoir Bonpassage.

History

The manor house was built in 1850 as the residence of a wealthy family. In 1900, the property was purchased by a Parisian who had a disabled daughter. For her sake, her father wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. In 1900, he had a second building erected next to the manor house to set up a poultry farm, which remained in operation until around 1926. After that, the building stood empty and fell into disrepair. Restoration work began in 1994. To this day, the many antique ceramics adorning the façade serve as a reminder of the prosperous times of yesteryear. The manor is now owned by a Dutch couple.
