A soothing sense of tranquillity and plenty of space – that’s what you can expect from a stay at De Vrolijkheid. This farmhouse is beautifully situated on the inner dyke of Lake Tjeukemeer in South-West Friesland. The spacious 4-person flat (a generous 122 m²) where you’ll be staying is situated in the front part of the farmhouse and has its own driveway, private entrance and large, secluded garden (890 m²). Can you picture it? Waking up to the sound of birdsong and views of the dyke, the pond and the Frisian countryside.
The flat comprises an entrance hall with a separate toilet, a cosy living room with a comfortable seating area, a reading corner, a television and a large dining table, perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal or playing games together. There are two spacious bedrooms with luxury box-spring beds, a fully equipped kitchen with an oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and Nespresso coffee machine, and a bathroom with a bath and separate shower. All rooms offer views of the garden. By arrangement, you can spend an evening relaxing in the jacuzzi. There is a charging point for an electric car.
Surroundings
The location is truly unique, right by the inner dyke of Lake Tjeukemeer, as you can walk straight out onto the dyke from the garden for a lovely stroll along the lake. Anyone wishing to spend a day out on the lake can hire a boat from the small Fjouwerhûs marina next door. In the sunny garden, you can relax with a good book or enjoy a coffee or a drink by the water, surrounded by an abundance of grebes, ducks and moorhens, hares, birds and – with a bit of luck whilst out walking – the occasional roe deer. It’s a 10-minute cycle ride to a village with a supermarket. Within 15 minutes by car, you can reach Joure, Heerenveen or Lemmer, which have plenty of lovely restaurants. The charming Frisian Eleven Cities are a short distance away (e.g. Sloten, 20 km).

The host
De Vrolijkheid has a rich history and, over the course of its existence, has been transformed from a farmhouse to a nightclub and then into a family home. In 2020, Inge Vemeulen and Leon Verraes moved in there with their dog, Wammes. The property has been completely renovated and made sustainable with great care. For example, the house is heated entirely by a heat pump and boilers, making it gas-free. In addition, no fewer than 40 solar panels in the meadow behind the plot generate renewable energy.
